Rural Culture Museums in Tuscany
Several museums dedicated to rural civilization have recently been created all over Tuscany Among them, the museum of San Pellegrino and the museum of Villafranca in Val di Magra are worth a visit.
 Cowboys of the Maremma Driving the Herds Rural civilization has lately attracted scholars’ attention and many surveys on Tuscan peasant and master’s houses have been carried out, as well as studies on the ancient working and building techniques. Scholars have had many difficulties in reconstructing the ancient rural mentality, which was strictly connected to – for us – unusual living standards.
In fact, at that time life in the countryside was mainly made of hard work in the fields. There was no running water and no electricity. After the sunset, the only light was the shimmering one of the hearth and of candles. In their dark houses, peasants told romantic or scaring stories before going to bed.
