This apartment is located in Santa Croce just a 20 minutes walk from the main SMN train station. We had no problem finding it with Google map indications. Giacomo, the owner, was waiting outside at the front door and welcomed us home. He is very fluent in English and was eager to answer our questions and give us local information. We felt at home in this nice neighborhood. The space is perfect for a couple or a small family. The area is very safe. We took advantage of the kitchen a few nights after picking up local produce at the San Lorenzo market just 15 minutes walk towards the train station. There is also a small CONAD grocery store closer to the apartment 5 minutes walk towards the river. The store has a nice meat/fish/bread counter. There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants in the area offering a wide variety of food for every budget. We did not rent a car because we had forgotten to take our international drivers licence mandatory in Italy. Also you must know that driving in the historical areas is forbidden in Italy unless you have a special permit and if you do you will get heavy finds. Instead we took 3 day tours during our stay. Half day wine tasting tour at a castle in Chianti, one day tour in Siena and San Gimignano and Cinque Terre day trip. We enjoyed the tours but felt the Cinque Terre tour very exhausting and too aggressive in the agenda with 4 train transfers between 4 villages. On a busy day you need to fight your way in and out the trains. We enjoyed our stay in Florence and Tuscany and would come back.
