Valdichiana - At the Tuscan-Umbrian Border

Valdichiana is a valley situated at the border dividing Tuscany and Umbria. On the Tuscan side, Valdichiana stretches in the provinces of Siena and Arezzo. The Chiani river and the Canale Maestro della Chiana (the main channel of the Chiana river) flow in this part of Tuscany, so rich in rivers, torrents and lakes, such as the lake Trasimeno, in Umbria, and the lake of Montepulciano and Chiusi, in the province of Siena. The lake of Chiusi has been recently transformed into a WWF natural reserve. Tuscan Valdichiana is divided into the municipalities of Arezzo, Castiglion Fiorentino, Civitella in Valdichiana, Cortona, Foiano della Chiana, Lucignano, Marciano della Chiana and Monte San Savino (in the province of Arezzo), Cetona, Chianciano Terme, Chiusi, Montepulciano, San Casciano dei Bagni, Sarteano, Sinalunga, Torrita di Siena and Trequanda (in the province of Siena).
