As we have already written in another chapter of this tourist guide, Arezzo is situated at the centre of three wonderful verdant valleys (Casentino, Valdichiana and Valdarno).

• Valdichiana stretched between the provinces of Arezzo and Siena. The towns in Aretine Valdichiana are Castiglion Fiorentino, Cortona, Foiano della Chiana, Monte San Savino and Civitella in Val di Chiana.

• The towns of Montevarchi, San Giovanni Valdarno and Terranuova Bracciolini form that part of Valdarno, or rather of Upper Valdarno, that stretches in the province of Arezzo. The rest of Upper Valdarno is in the province of Florence.

• Last but not least, Capolona, Subbiano, Castel Focognano, Bibbiena, Poppi, Pratovecchio and Stia form Casentino, the region where the Arno River rises.

The most striking feature, apart from the breathtaking landscapes (partly the result of the work of man), common to the three valleys is the presence of many farmhouses, which were mainly built in the 18th century under Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Tuscany.
