How to Get to Pistoia

The province of Pistoia is situated in northern Tuscany, at the foot of the Apennines. It stretches between the provinces of Florence, Prato and Lucca on the one side and those of Modena and Bologna on the other, and includes 22 municipalities. Apart from Pistoia itself, the most important ones are: Montecatini Terme, Quarrata, Monsummano Terme and Pescia.

If you want to get to the "city of enchanted stone" by car, take the A11 motorway and exit at Pistoia. If you have, instead, rented a Tuscan villa in the countryside, you can exit at Montecatini Terme or Chiesina Uzzanese.

While you are travelling along the A11 motorway, do not forget to take a look at the gorgeous nursery gardens that border the road on both sides near Pistoia exit.

If you are travelling on the A1 motorway, next to Florence a slip road connects the A1 to the A11.

As far as train is concerned, you can get easily get to Pistoia from Florence (which is about 37 kilometres away), Pisa (about 67 kilometres) and Bologna (little short of 100 kilometres). Bologna is connected to Pistoia via the "Strada ferrata dell`Italia occidentale" (Central Italy Railway), which was inaugurated in the second half of the 19th century and was also named Porrettana railway after the famous spa resort Porretta Terme.

And do not forget that the nearest airports to Pistoia are in Florence (Amerigo Vespucci), Pisa (Galileo Galilei) and Bologna (Guglielmo Marconi).
