Description

Standing just 30 kilometres from Florence, the castle situated along the ancient via Francigena, connecting France with Rome, has a high historical and cultural value. It dates back to 1210, when the Count Alberti of Certaldo built the so-called Caput Aulae, the centre of the Corte d`Elsa. Dating back to the 8th century, the Corte d`Elsa was part of a Lombard signory including Castelfiorentino and Certaldo.

The magnificent building, which was then transformed into an aristocratic villa, belonged to the Alberti family until the 17th century. The square brick tower and the ramparts surrounding the villa date back to the 13th century.

The villa offers 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.

Ground floor The main entrance opens onto a wide and cosy hunting living room decorated with an imposing fireplace. A marble staircase on the left leads to the first floor. From the living room, a hallway leads to the rest of the ground floor. A large and fully equipped kitchen with a corner for breakfast opens on the left. Along the hallway and past a toilet, there are a sumptuous dining room with fireplace and French door opening onto the courtyard and the Yellow living room with fireplace. On the left, there is the library with fireplace, a computer connected to Internet and a fax. Still on the left opens Frederick Barbarossa`s imperial bedroom, with en-suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bathtub.

First floor The marble staircase leads to the first floor, with 4 bedrooms opening on a long hallway: the Yellow double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bathtub; the Blue twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower and bathtub; the Rose twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bathtub and the Julia master bedroom with fireplace, access to the balcony overlooking the courtyard and en-suite bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bathtub. An ironing room completes the first floor. A second staircase leads to the Yellow living room on the ground floor.


Garden

The courtyard and a wide lawn lie in front of the villa and offer a breathtaking view of the vineyards of the farm and of the Tuscan countryside; in the distance, San Gimignano towers are to be seen. A staircase leads to the lower terrace and to the swimming pool (10x5 m), surrounded by a lawn and shaded by a porch. At the back, there are a shower and a fridge.


Lemon-house

A lemon-house that has been transformed into a living room opens onto the lawn; the terrace offers a charming view. Possibility of having an aperitif al fresco under the marquee in front of the lemon-house.
