Forte dei Marmi Tours

Cultural and Artistic Tour at the Discovery of Forte dei Marmi

From the town centre, going towards the "Roma Imperiale" area through the "Caranna" area, admire, on the way, villas of outstanding artistic and architectural value; in one of these, in Viale Morin, a famous German artist, Arnold Böcklin lived for several years, in fact, many celebrities from artistic and cultural circles have stayed in this villa and in many others in this area.

Forte dei Marmi
Continuing along Via XX Settembre on the cycling path take a look at the tribute to Eugenio Montale, a sculpture of a bench in marble by Rosalba Gilardi.

On the way back to the seafront there is an important Forte dei Marmi nightspot with a long historical tradition: "La Capannina" di Franceschi, popular and trendy since the beginning of the century.

As you arrive in the town centre on the right there are two other works by Arturo Dazzi "Marinai" in white marble.

Continue along the same road to reach "Piazza Marconi", a famous open air market on Wednesday.

In "Piazza A. Polacci" admire another statue by Arturo Dazzi "Giovane con Clava e Cane Lupo" and a 100m on, the church, Sant` Ermete, which in collaboration with the local council, organizes important musical events.

The tour ends in Piazza Garibaldi, the centre of Forte dei Marmi. This charming square boasts an ancient well, a fountain and the Leopold 1st Fort, the home of the Satire and Caricature Museum of the "Fondazione Citta"` of Forte dei Marmi and where exhibitions organized by the local council are displayed. Placed behind the Fort is the beautiful "Statue of Victory", a work by Arturo Dazzi.

Cycling Tour in Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi
This city tour offers a visit to the main points of interests in Forte dei Marmi. From the beach, or from the furthermost point on the pier (pedestrians only, as the entrance is prohibited to bicycles), admire the new circle-shaped piazza with bronze sculptures, dedicated to a boatman sailing towards the unknown: "Controvento", and to various star constellations by Anna Chromy. In the opposite square there is "La Mancina". The old crane, that was used to shift marble blocks on sailing coasters, was once on the old wooden bridge which was blown up during World War II for fear of a landing by allied forces.

Proceed northwards on the new cycling path along the seafront and making a short detour through the town centre, pass the playground in via Matteotti reaching Piazza Dante, venue of the most important events in the town festival "Estate al Forte" (Summer in Forte dei Marmi), organized by the local council. In the "Palazzo degli Studi", art exhibitions are held almost all year round. This whole area, called the "Parco della Rimembranza" and together with the memorial travertine marble monument is in honour of the fallen soldiers during all wars. Then, either follow the cycling path along Viale Italico or keep to the same route through the town to reach the "Vittoria Apuana" district.

Next stop is Villa Bertelli, recently purchased by the Town Council, its park hosts some of the cultural events of the Festival "Estate al Forte".

Cycle to the border of the borough of Montignoso to see the free beach, a natural oasis of coastal dunes, protected by the WWF reserve.

Heading inland, admire works by Rinaldo Bigi "Gorky e La Regina Saba", "Una Madre con Bambino" and "San. Francesco" by Arturo Dazzi (situated in the church square with the same name, an important venue for the Forte dei Marmi concert season) and for the abstract works "Figura in ambiente" by the local artist Ugo Guidi. ... from “Touring Around Versilia” (Versilia, Toscana, Italia)
