Chianti is the result of the perfect combination of climate, terrain and man skills. These are the fundamental factors that make of Chianti one of the symbols of "Made in Italy" and of Tuscany one of the most renowned and appreciated places in the world, an ideal holiday destination. The Consorzio del Vino Chianti was established in 1927 with the purpose of granting the quality of this famous wine. It checks the whole Chianti production cycle, from the selection of the grapes to vinification, from the respect of chemical, physical and organoleptic parameters to bottling. Only if it meets the severe requirements of the Consorzio a wine produced in the Chianti area becomes a Chianti DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, meaning that it comes from a carefully-defined area, is produced by traditional methods and is of guarantee high quality).

Chianti is produced in the provinces of Siena Florence Arezzo Pistoia, Pisa and Prato: a unique area featuring magnificent landscapes, where prestigious vines have been cultivated for centuries, the most famous of them being the Sangiovese variety. The Consorzio requires that Chianti contain minimum 80% of this grape, which gives the wine its unmistakable personality. Some other varieties cultivated in the Chianti region, such as the Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes, can be added to the Sangiovese one.

The Gallo Nero label (the black rooster is the symbol of the Consorzio del Chianti) guarantees the high quality of the wine, resulting from the skillful and careful blending of the various grapes. Now that wineries have become tourist destinations, you can taste this unique product directly where it is produced, in an ancient farmhouse or in a villa in the Chianti region.
