Textile Museum

It has been one of the most important European textile towns from time immemorial; in fact, it is often called "wool town". That is why Prato has dedicated a museum to textiles.

The museum is sited in the former Campolmi textile mill, not far from the Emperor`s Castle. The 19th-century complex incorporates a mill dating back to the Middle Ages. Textile samples, fashion plates, accessories, machinery and books on textiles and fashion are displayed in six thematic areas - from the Familiarization Area to the Historic Room, from the Contemporary Room to temporary exhibtions - that occupy 2,400 square metres (the whole architectural complex has a floor space of 8,500 square metres).

The museum testifies the history of Prato economic development in the course of the centuries and was founded in 1975 thanks to the legacy made by the collector Loriano Bertini to the Istituto Tecnico Industriale "Tullio Buzzi".

So, if you are spending your vacations in Tuscany and decide to visit or spend some days in Prato, you will have the opportunity to buy some of the finest textiles on the market and to learn how they are produced.
