Situated in the centre of Livorno, just a few steps from the famous Terrazza Mascagni, Villa Mimbelli was built between 1865 and 1871 by architect Vincenzo Micheli by order of Francesco Mimbelli, a rich Livornese merchant, and his wife Enrichetta.

On the ground floor, the elegant façade features three archways leading directly to the living and the dining rooms, both richly decorated with stuccoes and lunettes by Annibale Gatti. In the billiard room on the ground floor interesting arabesque decorations are to be admired. The owner`s apartments are on the upper floor, which is reached by a staircase decorated with ceramic puttos.

The dancehall on the first floor presents a curious element: a hidden opening allowing music to arrive from a room on the second floor of the villa, where the orchestra settled.

A Romantic park, rich in exotic plants and featuring a still active theatre, surrounds the building.
