In the upper part of Arezzo that part of the town called "borgo di San Vito", in Via XX Settembre number 55, you find Casa Vasari, the museum created in Vasari`s former house.

Giorgio Vasari (Arezzo 1511 – Florence 1574) was an important Renaissance artist. Actually, he was a kind of minister of culture at Cosimo I de` Medici`s court, the Grand Duke of Tuscany.

The famous artist from Arezzo projected Palazzo dei Cavalieri in Pisa, the Uffizi and the "Corridoio Vasariano" (Vasari Corridor), as well as the renovation of Palazzo in Florence

The three-storey building the Vasari family bought while it was still under construction has a small but sweet garden. On the first floor, there is the apartment where the family lived, whose walls where first frescoed by Vasari himself (some of the paintings represent the members of the artist`s family engaged in everyday activities) and then decorated with other 16h-century paintings and objects.

Moreover, Casa Vasari houses the archive of the correspondence of the artist, an important source of information for art historians.

At the end of your visit to Casa Vasari, you could walk back to the villa in Arezzo you have rented for your holidays following the tracks the artist has left in town, including Piazza Grande, the Logge Vasariane and the paintings "The Baptism of Christ" and "Preaching of St. John the Baptist" at Museo Diocesano.
