Scarperia is surely one of the more interesting centres to visit in Mugello. Among the monuments that will catch your attention, the Palazzo dei Vicari is the most outstanding one. Even before getting into town you’ll be able to admire the many rural churches, ancient country houses and villas in the Mugello countryside .

During the Florentine Republic Scarperia was an important centre as it was in the very middle of the only way connecting Florence to Bologna. In 1415 Scarperia became seat of the Vicariato (Parsonage) and for this reason Florence delegated to it some of the administrative power. Today, as evidence of that time, remains the beautiful Palazzo dei Vicari. The facade of the palace will surely struck you, as it is all covered in the coat of arms that the families that held the position of vicars made hang up there.

Next to the palace there is also the Museo dei Ferri Taglienti ( Museum of the Cutting Irons) that is evidence of the traditional production in Scarperia of blades and knives.

But it won’t only be the Palazzo dei Vicari and the museum to impress you in Scarperia. Indeed every year the list of events organized in the the municipality is very long: from the food and wine festivals where you’ll learn to appreciate the typical products of the Mugello, to the market exhibitions of handicraft products, to the historical commemorations where you’ll see the participants parade all dressed up in costume.

How can one forget the main event in Scarperia, that is the Infiorata? If you are on holidays in Mugello at the end of May don’t miss the chance to see the streets of the town all covered in petals.
