What to see in Mugello

During your holidays in Mugello you will take benefit not only of the beauty and peace of the Mugello countryside, but of the chance to visit the many historical mansions as well: the majestic Medici villas and castles with their lush gardens. Do not forget then to stop and visit Villa Demidoff, the Trebbio Castle and the fortresses.

If you have planned to spend your holidays in the Mugello countryside, save some time to visit the Medici villas and castles. Your first stop could be at Villa Demidoff: the parc surrounding it is absolutely unique, embellished by its fountains and by the numerous sculptures.

Your tour of the great Mugello villas can continue with a visit to the Trebbio Castle; if you climb up the its tower, you’ll be able to see the whole valley and enjoy a really unique view.

In order to end up properly your day, what else could you wish but to stop off at the Cafaggiolo Castle for an aperitiv? When you get here, you’ll understand why this was one of the Medici’s favourite mansions.

The San Martino Fortress is nearby San Piero a Sieve: if you happen to be round here briefly break your tour to take a look. Even though it is not possible to visit the fortress, the view from the hill where it stands has no compare. You’ll be able to space out in the valleys and count the innumerable farmhouses all around.

In Scarperia your tour goes on with Palazzo dei Vicari and its Museo dei ferri Taglienti.

If you still have some time left, you might pay a quick visit at the Convento di Bosco ai Frati. In the museum next to it you can admire the wooden crucifix attributed to Donatello.

If the above information has picked your curiosity, plan to dedicate a day to the history and culture of this area: you’ll be surely satisfied.
