Florence is divided into five districts: District 1, including the historic centre; District 2, or Campo di Marte (north-east); District 3, or Gavinana Galluzzo (south-east); District 4, or Isolotto and Legnaia (west); and District 5, or Rifredi (north-west).

However calling District 4 "simply" Isolotto and Legnaia does not do justice to the many areas enclosed in its boundaries: Argingrosso and Le Torri, San Lorenzo a Greve and Ugnano... just to mention some of them.

The panorama, too, changes when you pass from an area to the other: tall buildings are replaced by the typical one-or-more-storey villas of the outskirts of Florence featuring stone walls and surrounded by gardens.

What is to be visited in this part of the town?
As we have already said in the previous chapters of this guide dedicated to the other districts of Florence in District 4, too, there is plenty of things to see, such as...

• Villa Vogel, which stands right at the centre of a vast green area equipped with children`s playthings and sport playgrounds for teenagers and adults;

• Villa Strozzi al Boschetto, which was built in the 16th century. In the 19th century architect Poggi remodelled the park that surrounds the building, which now hosts Polimoda, a fashion and design school that underlines the close relationship between Florence and fashion;

• the Hebrew Monumental Cemetery, which dates back to the 18th century and once a month is opened to visitors.
