Cradle of the Renaissance

From the time it was founded by the Romans around 60 BC through the 19th century, when, in that period called Italian Risorgimento, it became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy (1865-1871), the history of Florence is really rich in important and curious events.

However, Florence is mainly renowned for having been the cradle of the Renaissance.

If you decide to spend your holidays in Tuscany and to rent a villa in Florence you will see traces of that extraordinary artistic and cultural period wherever you go.

Between the mid-14th and late 15th centuries in Florence lived and worked important artists and philosophers. Here Brunelleschi designed and built, among other things, the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Spedale degli Innocenti and the Basilica of San Lorenzo. The astounding frescoes that decorate the walls of the Cappella Brancacci, in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, are by Masaccio (1401-1428).
And the list could go on with Donatello, Leonardo da Vinci...: artists who made of Florence one of the most important cities in modern Europe.

We therefore advise you not to leave your house without a guide to Renaissance art (on the Internet you can find plenty of information for free) and a camera or a sketch block for reproducing the many monuments you will visit and the masterpieces housed in Florence villas, museums, churches and historic residences.

Your holiday in Florence will certainly transform into the most fascinating history lesson of your life!
