You have rented a villa or farmhouse in Siena and you have already visited the whole town of the Palio? Do not worry; the Sienese countryside is rich in wonderful hamlets you could visit during your holidays in Tuscany.

You could first make a one-day trip to Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza... between wine, pici and pecorino cheese.

Your first stop could be Montacino, which is about 40 kilometres from Siena As you get closer to the land of Brunello, you will perceive the silhouette of the Rocca. The Sienese built it in 1361 and when the sky is clean, from its towers you can see Chianciano Terme, San Quirico d`Orcia, Montepulciano and Pienza
Just a piece of advice: before leaving Montalcino try the Brunello ice cream in the ice-cream parlour near the Town Hall.

On your way towards Montepulciano the town where has been shot one of the Twilight films, you could then stop in Pienza

The ideal 16th-century town, Pienza owes its present structure to Pope Pius II, who was born there when it was still called Corsignano.
The central square, onto which open the Cathedral, the Town Hall, Palazzo Piccolomini and the Palazzo Vescovile, is an example of that architecture on a human scale people craved for in the Renaissance.

Montepulciano is the last stop of the tour. There, you could stroll along the main street towards Piazza Grande.
