Do you like skiing and snowboarding? You do not have to go to the Alps in northern Italy to dedicate to your favourite sports!

With its more than 20 kilometres of pistes divided into 12 downhill pistes and 4 Nordic-ski tracks, Mount Amiata (1,738 metres above sea level) is the most important ski resort in Lower Tuscany and Upper Latium.
And it is just an hour`s drive from Siena!

So, if you are planning to spend your winter holidays in Tuscany and rent a villa or a farmhouse in Siena or in its outskirts for one or more weeks, you will have the opportunity to ski and play with snow.

The slopes of this dormant volcano have attracted ski lovers since the 1960s, when even the famous ski teachers from Sestola (a ski resort in the Emilian Apennines) went there to teach their technique. And in the three years from 1984 to 1986 Mount Amiata hosted the races of the female European cup of ski.

The skiing season generally begins mid-December and ends after Easter. But obviously, everything depends on climatic conditions, and in case of heavy snowfalls the skiing season could be prolonged.

On Mount Amiata, you will find a good accommodation service, and some ski teachers.
