You could happen to hear lively jazz tunes or some joyful melodies by Vivaldi from the windows of your holiday villa in Siena . No wonder: you are spending your holidays in the town that hosts two important musical institutions: the Accademia Chigiana and the Accademia Nazionale del Jazz.

Founded in 1932 by the will of the Sienese nobleman and musician Guido Chigi Saracini, the Accademia Nazionale Chigiana is a very important international centre for advanced musical studies whose list of distinguished students includes such famous musicians as Zubin Mehta, Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi and Daniel Baremboin.
The Accademia Chigiana is not only a school: it organizes and sponsors the "Settimana Musicale Senese", the "Micat in Vertice" concert season and the "Estate Musicale Chigiana", during which the professors play together with their students.

The wonderful Fortezza Medicea hosts the headquarters of the Fondazione Siena Jazz - Accademia Nazionale del Jazz, a school founded in the late 1960s that organizes concerts, events and exhibitions in the whole town.

So, if you have rented a villa in Tuscany , or, rather, one of the many farmhouses in Siena and its outskirts, you could decide to attend some classical music or jazz concerts. In Siena you are just spoilt with choice!
