Siena composes of the Terzo di Camollia, the Terzo di Città and the Terzo di San Martino, each o which includes some of the seventeen contrade into which the town is divided.

In the last few years, tourists have discovered the pleasure of trekking.
Renting a villa or a farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside, you could walk along white roads winding on the hills, surrounded by vineyard and sunflower fields. But if you have decided to spend some time in a holiday villa in Siena or in a farmhouse just outside the city walls, you could grab the opportunity to trek in various Terzi.

The Terzo di San Martino stretches in the south-eastern part of Siena; it includes the contrade of Civetta, Leocorno, Nicchio, Montone and Torre.
Like the Terzo di Città, the Terzo di San Martino is crossed by the Via Francigena (or Romea). And this part of the town of the Palio owes its name right to what we could consider a sort of ancient "expressway": San Martino is in fact the patron saint of pilgrims and travellers.
