Villas in Florence: Villa Convento di Carmignanello in Sesto Fiorentino
Villa Convento di Carmignanello stands in dominant position atop a hill in the municipality of Sesto Fiorentino, in proximity to the spring of the Zambra torrent.
Together with the church of San Bartolomeo and the annexed farm, which has the form an ancient Medieval tower, the villa constitutes the village called Carmignanello.
The villa is an aristocratic country residence that originally belonged to the Bouninsegni family. The community of the Franciscan Friars of Santa Maria Novella acquired the villa in 1609 and transformed it into a monastery between 1610 and 1620. However, architect Matteo Nigetti, to whom the friars had commissioned the renovation, was not able to finish his work.
