Villas in Florence: Villa di Bivigliano in Vaglia

Bivigliano is a village in the municipality of Vaglia, in the province of Florence, whose name derives from a member of the Medici family who lived at the same time as Lorenzo the Magnificent. In this village stands the wonderful Villa di Bivigliano, also known as Villa Pozzolini.

The project of the villa was probably by Bernardo Buontalenti, who at that time worked at the construction of the nearby Medicean villa in Pratolino, today known with the name of Villa Demidoff.

The Ginori family commissioned the villa, which was built on the ruins of an ancient castle. The Ginori family used the villa and its 12-hectare park in Bivigliano as summer residence and preserve.

General Giorgio Pozzolini bought the villa around the half of the 19th century and commissioned some reafforestation works, as a result of which many exotic plants were bedded in the park of the villa.
