Villas in Florence: Villa Il Ventaglio
Situated in eastern Florence, not far from the municipality of Fiesole, Villa Il Ventaglio is part of an estate which in the 15t century belonged to Lippaccio and Giovanni Brancacci.
In the first half of the 19th century, Earl Giuseppe Archinto acquired the villa and commissioned the famous architect Giuseppe Poggi the renovation of the building and the reorganisation of the garden.
With the cooperation of botanist Attilio Pucci, Poggi transformed the park into a romantic garden, which Earl Archinto could not admire, having died before the end of the works, in 1861.
In 1862 some economic problems forced Luigi Archinto to sell the villa to Aristide Castelli. The Italian government bought Villa Il Ventaglio in 1969 and, after some renovation works, gave it to the Florentine International University of Art.
