Villas in Florence: Villa Le Corti in San Casciano Val di Pesa
Villa Le Corti was mentioned for the first time in 1427 in some documents of first Florentine cadastre. In these documents is reported that the Corsini family purchased a tower standing in strategic position along the fortification line built to defend Florence from attacks coming from south.
The villa that can still be admired today replaced the ancient tower in the 17th century. It was the architect and painter Santi di Tito who designed the building and its twin towers. In the gallery inside the villa, the portraits of the most important members of the Corsini family are exposed. At the end of the 19th century, a series of coats of arms were frescoed in the numerous rooms of the villa by order of Tommaso Corsini.
The villa is surrounded by an Italian garden and a wide park, where a frescoed tabernacle dating back to the 14th century and a statue attributed to Giambologna are to be admired.
An aristocratic chapel dedicated to Andrea Corsini, which architect Vincenzo Micheli built at the end of the 19th century, stands not far from the villa.
