Villas in Florence: Villa di Cambiano in Castelfiorentino
The present Villa di Cambiano is the result of a series of renovations and enlargements the Medieval castle of Cambiano has undergone in the course of the centuries. The place where the villa stands, which today is improperly called Cambiano - from the name of the Cambi family, which bought the villa in the second half of the 15th century - was originally called Camiano.
When he bought the villa, Bernardo Cambi acquired also the patronage on the nearby church of San Prospero, whom he embellished with some paintings now exposed in the museum of Santa Verdiana, in Castelfiorentino.
Niccolò Xaviero Cambi renovated the villa during the 18th century, when he married Lucrezia del Conte Capitano Galli Tassi, from Prato. Although the Renaissance character of the building was maintained, many elements matching the 17-century taste were added, in order to celebrate the owner`s prestige. It is on this occasion that the park surrounding the building, which conveys it a monumental character, was realized.
